There are PLENTY of side hustle apps out there if you’re looking to make some extra money from your phone. Whether you’re stacking your hustles and looking to branch out or you’re just getting started, there’s something on this list for you.
We’ve got everything from your classic food delivery to house cleaning and investing. Try out one or get into several, which side hustle app are you going to try next?
Best Side Hustle Apps for Caregivers
1. Rover
If you love animals more than humans (who doesn’t?), Rover is the side hustle app for you.
It connects pet parents with experienced and loving sitters and walkers across the US, Canada, the UK, and Europe. If that sounds like you (the sitter part) then Rover is an awesome flexible way to earn extra income.
To get started, simply sign up, pass a background check, and build your portfolio. And you get to choose your own rate, so you have a bit more control over your finances – though it’s worth keeping in mind that Rover takes a 20-25% service fee.
Whether you’re looking to supplement your income or turn your passion for pets into a profitable gig, Rover provides a rewarding opportunity.
2. Meowtel
Meowtel is the perfect platform for cat enthusiasts looking to earn extra income.
Similar to Rover but exclusively for cats, Meowtel sitters provide care including feeding, litter scooping, and playtime. And while you do get to choose your own pricing, it’s encouraged that it’s an all-in-one deal so you’re not constantly negotiating over the small things.
For me, the big flag is that Meowtel takes a tiered commission starting at 30%. It decreased the more you get repeat businesses from clients, but it’s still pretty high. You’ll need to check if Meowtel operates in your area, pass a background check and complete an activation call to get started.
However, it offers a flexible, rewarding way to turn your love of cats into a profitable side hustle.
3. Wag
Wag is one of Rover’s largest competitors. It’s a great platform for pet lovers in the US looking to make a little extra. As a Wag caregiver, you can set your own rates and offer a range of pet services, including walking, brief drop-ins, sitting, boarding, and training.
To get started, create a detailed profile, take a dog safety quiz, and pass a background check (YOU need to pay for it). Once approved, download the caregiver’s app to begin offering your services. It’s worth noting that Wag takes a commission of 30% to 40% of what you earn, depending on the type of service provided.
Whether you’re a dog walker or sitter, it offers a flexible and rewarding way to turn your passion for pets into a profitable side hustle.
4. SitterCity
Styled similar to Upwork but for care jobs, Sittercity allows you to connect with families and apply for caregiving jobs. Whether you’re interested in babysitting, dog walking, or pet sitting, Sittercity offers a range of job postings for you to explore.
To get started, set up an account, create a detailed profile, and apply for jobs that match your skills and availability.
I like that unlike platforms that serve as databases of sitters and walkers, Sittercity provides a more proactive approach, enabling caregivers to find and apply to specific job postings – though this does have its own challenges.
5. Papa
If lending a helping hand is where your heart’s at, Papa might be for you.
Papa is a companion app designed to connect helpers, known as Papa Pals, with older adults in need of companionship and assistance. Tasks may include providing companionship, meal preparation, running errands, and helping with house tasks.
With a base rate of $13 to $18 per hour, plus bonuses and one-way commute mileage, Papa Pals can earn an average of $22 per hour. It’s ideal for those who enjoy helping others and want to form meaningful connections while earning a decent wage.
Best Delivery Side Hustle Apps
6. Amazon Flex
Amazon Flex offers a way to earn extra income by delivering packages using your own vehicle.
Like many of the gigs on this list, you can work when you want to. There’s an opportunity to reserve “blocks” in advance or pick them on the day-of based on your availability. It’s as simple as reserve your block, deliver the packages and get paid.
To be eligible for Amazon Flex, you’ll need:
- to be 21+ years old
- have a 4-door midsized sedan (or larger)
- a valid driver’s licence
- personal auto insurance
- valid social security number and bank account
While earnings vary, most delivery partners earn between $18 and $25 per hour, though it depends on your location, tips and delivery time. It’s a great side hustle for those looking to earn money on a flexible schedule while moving closer to their financial goals.
7. Shipt
If Amazon Flex and Instacart had a baby, that baby would be Shipt.
It’s primarily a membership-based grocery marketplace that offers a a flexible way to earn extra income by delivering groceries from stores like Office Depot, Costco, and Target. However, there’s also a delivery arm where you can fill up your car with packages heading a longer distance (like a 5 to 7 hour drive, or longer) and get paid for that too.
Shipt is only available in the United States. You’ll need a valid diver’s licence, vehicle (what that vehicle is will depend on whether you’re a driver or shopper), and you’ll need to be 18 years or older.
While your payment will vary, shoppers earn a minimum of $16 per hour, and delivery drivers $25 per hour. Payment is made weekly or instantly via Instant Pay. Shipt also offers bonus opportunities, making it a great side hustle for those looking to earn extra income on a flexible schedule.
8. Instacart
Instacart is one of the most popular grocery delivery apps out there. Chances are, if you’re thinking about a delivery side hustle, you’ve heard of Instacart.
Just like you do as a Shipt personal shopper, with Instacart, you accept batches (orders), head to the store requested and shop, then deliver it. Similarly, you earn via a combination of batch pay, tips and additional incentives.
This is a side hustle that can be lucrative if you’re in the right market. With millions of users annually (and more everyday!) this could be a great hustle to get in on IF you like grocery shopping and delivery.
9. Uber Eats
Uber Eats is the classic pizza delivery gig for 2024.
In a single night you could be delivering a Big Mac from Micky D’s to a fancy 4-course meal from a local hot spot. Not to mention they’ve expanded to include Instacart-style grocery shopping, so you’ve got options if you want to go with this side hustle.
Depending on what you sign up for, you can deliver with Uber Eats with your car, motorcycle or even bike. Requirements and earnings vary by location, what’s great is this is available in more than just the United States (I live in Mexico, and I REGULARLY get Uber Eats to deliver pet food).
10. GrubHub
GrubHub provides a similar experience to it’s competitors like Door Dash and Uber Eats. You act as a food delivery service grabbing order from the restaurant and delivering it to the end customer.
Per usual, the pay you make varies a lot and depends on your market but many drivers report between $11 and $15 USD per hour. But both less and more is reported.
What I like most about GrubHub is that they offer flexibility with your cash out options – you can wait until the weekly direct deposit on Thursday OR cash out up to $500 USD daily.
11. Door Dash
Unlike some of the other food delivery options on our list, Door Dash does NOT guarantee any kind of base pay… which depending on where you are might such. However, most delivers have a base rate between $2 and $10 depending on the estimated duration, distance, and overall desirability of the order.
That said, drivers in larger markets who plan their routes well report earning between $500 and $800 per week, making it a plausible hustle to line your pockets with some extra, well-earned cash. Door Dash also has a daily and weekly cash out options for US Dashers.
Best Rideshare Side Hustles
12. Uber
If rideshares are your hustle of choice, then Uber is for you.
You can set your own schedule, drive when it suits you, and earn a side income or make it full-time. While earnings vary based on location, time of day, current demand and tips, drivers recieve base fares plus any tips and surge pricing during peak hours.
To get started you’ll need to:
- Have a vehicle that meets Uber’s requirements
- Complete (and pass) a background check
Uber is a great option for those looking to earn money on their own terms while helping people get where they need to go. Not to mention, it pays weekly!
13. Lyft
Lyft provides another way to earn extra income by providing ride-sharing services.
To get started, you’ll need to:
- Sign up in the Lyft App
- Complete (and pass) a background check
- Ensure your vehicle meets Lyfts requirements
Again, your earning will vary based on location, time, and demand, with drivers receiving base fares plus any tips and additional bonuses during peak hours. Payments are made weekly via direct deposit, and drivers can track their earnings in real-time through the app.
Lyft provides an excellent opportunity for those looking to earn money on their own terms while helping passengers reach their destinations safely and efficiently.
Best Video and/or Photo Hustles
14. Ivueit
Ivuet is an on-demand property inspection platform that collects unbiased photo and survey data for residential and commercial properties.
Freelancers, known as “vuers,” make quick money by taking photos of properties for these inspections. To get started, all you need is a driver’s license, insurance, and a smartphone. It’s not the highest paying hustle, but each task or “vu” ranges from $7 to $50, depending on the complexity.
This platform offers a flexible way to earn extra income while providing valuable inspection data to property owners and managers.
16. Observa
Observa is a platform that allows you to earn money by performing mystery shopping and retail audits. As an “observer” you complete tasks like taking photos of product displays, checking prices, and providing feedback on store conditions.
You’ll need to sign up to the app, and the whole process is run via your smartphone. Again, payment varies based on the complexity of your task and it’s not the most fruitful – most tasks will get you between $4 and $20.
The real benefit is that payments from Observa are made quickly via PayPal.
17. Snapmob
If photography is more your game, Snapmob might be the hustle app for you.
It’s an on-demand photography platform that connects freelancers with clients needing quick, professional photos. As a Snapmob photographer, you can accept gigs to take photos for almost anything from real estate listings, events, or marketing materials.
To get started, you’ll just need to sign up for the Snapmob app and accept available gigs. Once you complete them, it’s time to get paid!
This is a flexible way to earn extra income doing what you love. Though the pay will vary and it’s not likely to be the most lucrative. I would pair a side hustle like this with some stock photography to stack a little bit.
18. LocalLens
LocalLens connects freelance photographers with travelers looking to capture their vacation memories. This is a GREAT travel-related business, I’d recommend pair it with a blog.
As a LocalLens photographer, accept bookings to take professional photos for clients in various travel destinations. This is great if you’re a local and know all the best hot spots and Instagrammable places.
Payments are going to vary based on the location and length of a session. It’s also a great way to gain a flexible income that fits with you schedule.
Best Task/Freelance Apps
19. Fiverr
Fiverr is a versatile freelance marketplace that allows you to offer a wide range of services, from graphic design to programming. This is a great place to start if you’re looking to start your freelancing career.
The downside to Fiverr is that while you can more easily find clients, the pay is a tad bit lower than some other places (like finding your own clients). You also have to keep ALL of your clients on the platform – no stealing anyone!
You get paid via Fiverr’s own tool and they take 20% of what you make. You also need to wait a 14-day clearing period before your money can make it to your bank account. All of that said, I still think it can be a great starting point.
20. Upwork
Upwork is a professional freelance platform that connects freelancers with clients seeking a wide range of services, including writing, design, programming, and marketing. It’s just like Fiverr, though it’s more client-driven.
To get started, you’ll need to create a profile on the platform before you start bidding on projects that match your expertise. Clients can also reach out to you directly, so make sure your profile is filled right out.
I have lots of experience on Upwork, which means I’ve got an opinion on the not-so-great things. The biggest drawbacks are that they take 20% and you need to use credits (and you only get a few for free) – which is a new “improvement” on the platform.
All of that said, if you’re starting your freelance career, this can be a good place to start… just don’t get stuck there!
21. TaskRabbit
TaskRabbit is a platform that connects those who like to work with their hands with clients needing help with various tasks. This is especially good if you’re a great IKEA furniture assembler, but tasks can also include things like home repairs, cleaning and moving – essentially this is more hands-on tasks.
To get started, create a profile on TaskRabbit, list your skills and services, and set your hourly rates. Clients can then browse profiles and hire you for tasks that match your expertise.
Once you’ve completed a job, you can recieve payments securely through the platform – though they do charge a service fee based on your earnings. It’s an ideal side hustle for those who enjoy hands-on work and helping others with everyday tasks.

It’s a great platform that offers a flexible way to earn extra income while providing essential services to clients, making it an excellent side hustle for those with skills in cleaning and home maintenance.
However, a word of warning, if you cancel a job you’ve already accepted you could be subjected to a fee of $10 to $50. The flip side to this is that if someone cancels on you, you usually get paid a cancellation fee.
