Welcome to Day 4 of the 31 Days of Marketing Your Freelance Business Series! For the month of October we are going to be covering a ton of different ways you can market your business and get more clients.
Now that you’ve got your website set up, it’s time to make it your own. Your freelance website should be professional, clean, and uniquely you. You want your site to speak to your ideal clients not only through the brilliant content you will be creating, but also through its appearance. Creating a consistent style for your website and all of your other marketing materials is going to help readers and potential clients identify you and remember you.
HOW TO DESIGN YOUR FREELANCE WEBSITE
1. Choose your style – Start by gathering images, fonts, websites, and files that you like. Use a Pinterest board or bookmarking service to keep everything in one place. As you’re going through the images you’ve chosen, pick out the elements that seem to be repeating themselves. From there, choose your colours, fonts and style elements. I highly recommend going through this Style Guide exercise from ByRegina. She has great tips and a worksheet that you can download to reference every time you are creating something for your website.

2. Get a logo made – having a logo for your business makes you seem more legit. You can use your logo everywhere; on your website, your business cards, on images, marketing materials, guides, downloads… you name it! It’s an investment you won’t regret making. 99Designs has pre-made logos that you can have customized, or you can have a totally original logo created.
3. Customize your theme – with the colours, fonts and other elements you identified in step 1, start to customize the theme you’ve chosen. You can play around with it, changing your headers, link colours, and widgets until your site looks great. If you aren’t a web designer this stage can be pretty frustrating. Make tutorials your best friend.
Now you should have a beautiful looking site and brand that you are proud to share with the world. I’d love to see your site so leave a link in the comments below!
