Welcome to Day 8 of the 31 Days of Marketing Your Freelance Business Series! For the month of October we are going to be covering a ton of different ways you can market your business and get more clients.
The contact page on your freelance website is, often times, the last chance you have to convince potential clients to reach out to you. They’ve looked through your awesome portfolio, they’ve read all about who you are, they’ve browsed your service packages, and they are ready to get in touch to get things rolling on your next project. Now they just need to contact you and your paycheque is in the mail!
But what if they’re taken to a generic, uninviting contact page and now they’re completely turned off? The last thing you want is for your brilliant website copy and content to be undermined by a poor contact page. Or worse, a contact form that doesn’t work! Let’s avoid that, shall we?
Use Inviting Copy
The copy on this page, like every other page of your site, needs to speak to your ideal client and make them feel super comfortable. Sometimes reaching out to a total stranger can be really intimidating. Your freelance contact page should make people feel at ease with you.
Include a quick blurb inviting people to get in touch. Make sure it isn’t salesy or cold – you don’t want to scare anyone away. You can also use this opportunity to answer any frequently asked questions if you are looking to deter certain kinds of emails. Just be nice about it.
Make it Easy to Reach You
Try adding a contact form to your freelance contact page that is simple and straightforward. Use a WordPress plugin like Contact Form 7. Don’t include too many required fields, just the basics: Name, email address, message. If there are specific things you want to know in the initial email, specify them above the form.
It’s also a good idea to give people options. Include an email address for people who are scared of contact forms (is that a real thing?). Let people know where else they can find you online by adding links to your social media accounts. And lastly, include a signup form for your email list. The more ways people can connect with you, the more chances you have to reach them and stay top-of-mind when they are looking for your services!
