SETTING YOUR FREELANCE MARKETING GOALS
The first step of any marketing program is going over your goals. I know some people absolutely hate this part and just want to get to the goods. But how can you get somewhere if you don’t know where you want to go? And don’t worry, I’m going to make this as painless as possible.
We aren’t going to go over your life goals today, like how you want to visit 50 countries by 35, or how you want to buy a $250,000 car in the next 5 years. Having those kinds of goal setting sessions are great, but today we’re focusing on marketing your business.
Start by taking a brief inventory of where you’re at.
- How many clients do you have?
- How much income are you earning?
- How many prospects are you talking to each month?
- How much time are you spending working?
- What are you charging per hour?
- How much traffic are you getting to your blog or website each month?
- How many twitter followers/Facebook fans/Instagram followers do you have?
Now, answer all of those questions again only answer with where you’d like to be in 3 months from now. These are the goals you will measure your marketing performance against. Once you start marketing yourself more, you’ll be able to see where you are growing, what marketing activities are working for you, and what activities result in getting more clients.
If you don’t know the exact answers to these questions right now, focus on the first three: How many clients you have, how much income you are earning, and how many prospects you are talking to. These three are what determines your income.
Now you’ve got some numbers to work towards. All month I am going to be giving you strategies and tips to help you reach these goals with simple marketing activities. Don’t worry, it’s going to be painless.
